The HPV Vaccine controversy has led medical experts and policymakers to take a closer look at the HPV Vaccine Gardasil, produced by Merck. Dr. Jon Abramson, chairman of the Centers for Disease Control's advisory committee on immunization practices, recently published a statement opposing any mandate for preteens to take the vaccine at this time. The chairman's stance agrees with that taken by Free Market Foundation's medical division; Texas Physicians Resource Council (TPRC). CLICK HERE to read TPRC's executive statement on the HPV Vaccine.

Churches are often vulnerable to the persecution of unjust taxation. Pastor Tom Franklin and the members of the New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church are an example. Soon after parents in the church expressed concern over the quality of education provided by the school district, the church's tax-exemption status was revoked and heavy taxes imposed. After 20 years of political persecution, the church recently received justice when the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors voted to remove all taxes, admitting they had made a mistake by withdrawing tax-exemption status. Free Market Foundation's legal division has defended churches in similar situations, recently winning a victory for Full Gospel Powerhouse Church of God in Christ in Wichita Falls. Currently, Free Market Foundation is monitoring the success of legislation proposed to provide churches protection so they do not have to endure these detrimental battles.

Just last week, Rhode Island State Attorney General Patrick Lynch claimed there is no reason to deny recognition of same-sex marriage performed in Massachusetts. Pro-family groups like Free Market Foundation have been expectantly monitoring pro-gay legislation advocating for same-sex marriage and are working to keep policymakers and the public on alert to protect the institution of marriage.

H.B. 167, with the support of Free Market Foundation, was favorably voted out of the Texas House State Affairs Committee on Monday. This bill prevents debt collectors from seizing a Bible, or any other sacred religious text, to satisfy a debt. Please ask your Representative to support this bill as it continues to go through the legislative process.
