CMS Announces 2010 Medicare Annual Participation Enrollment Program Extension

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that it has extended the 2010 Annual Participation Enrollment Program end date from December 31, 2009, to January 31, 2010 .  This means that the enrollment period now runs from November 13, 2009, through January 31, 2010.

The September 23, 2009, edition of the Wesgram Online provided important information that physicians should know if they are considering making a change in their Medicare participation status.   If you decide to change your participation status for the coming year, you will need to complete a new Participation Agreement for 2010.

The Participation Agreement (CMS-Form 460) is available on the CD-ROM that was recently sent out by  Palmetto GBA during the annual participation enrollment period.  The CMS-Form-460 is also available on their website, www.palmettogba.com., with the participation enrollment instructions, as well as provider termination instructions.

The effective date for any Participation status change during the extension remains January 1, 2010,  and will be in force for the entire year.  Palmetto GBA will accept and process any participation elections or withdrawals made during the extended enrollment period that are received or post-marked on or before January 31, 2010.
