  LAVRO Driftboat Drawing

Lavro Boats of Monroe, Washington,  donated an 11-foot fiberglass driftboat to the CCA North Snohomish chapter.  Lavro, building boats since the early 1970s, offers a Lifetime Warranty on all of their boats against bottom punctures, leaks, or wearing out
(read the warranty at www.lavroboats.com/whylavro.html).

The North Snohomish chapter and CCA are offering one thousand $10 tickets for a drawing to win this boat, a trailer, oars, anchor,
and a custom cover. You don’t have to be at the June drawing to win.

You say you don’t want a driftboat??  Well, please buy a ticket or two anyway.  If you win, you could donate the boat and trailer to your
next chapter banquet for the live auction. Only ten bucks for a chance to be a hero with a GREAT donation to your banquet.

Thank you, Lavro Boats, for your generous contribution to CCA!

  New CCA Washington Chapters Form

In 2009 CCA Washington started two new chapters. In the Aberdeen/Montesano area the new Twin Harbors chapter was started in September. Chapter president Leon Bialkoski is off to a running start with a few general chapter meetings under his belt. A banquet committee has been formed with two banquet meetings already under their belt. Their banquet is set for early May.

On the east side of the state CCA Washington started the North Central Washington chapter in December. Located in Wenatchee, the new chapter will be hosting their first annual fundraising banquet in mid May. Bob Schmidt, owner of Mack’s Lure and chapter president, hosted his first chapter meeting recently.

CCA Washington is taking steps to start a new chapter in the Port Angeles/Sequim area. We are planning to have a chapter kick-off meeting in mid to late April. For local contact information, questions or to add your name to our notification list, email Becca at ccaolypen@gmail.com

CCA Washington is always looking for folks interested in starting new chapters. Contact Nello Picinich at 877-255-8772 or email Nello.picinich@ccapnw.org if you are interested in forming a chapter.

  Advocacy
  Columbia River SSRA Board

On January 27th CCA members Jerry Rhoads and Ed Wickersham attended the second meeting of the Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Recreational Advisory Board (CRSSRAB) in Yakima Washington.

All members of the board were present for this meeting including WDFW staff members representing 4 Regional Offices. The list of attendees is included below.

John Long, WDFW CRSSRAB Liaison

CRSSRAB Members:

Del Groat, Snake River Salmon Recovery Board
Jerry Rhoads, CCA and Camp Patriot
Steve Watrous, Columbia Pacific Anglers, SAS-PFMC
Irv Conner, Wenatchee Valley Fly Fishers
Bob Whitehall, Entiat Watershed Planning
Dave Graybill, Trout Unlimited
Ed Wickersham, CCA
Denny Way, Clark/Skamania Fly Fishers
Steve Martin, Snake River Salmon Recovery Board

WDFW Staff:

Jeff Korth, Region 2
John Whalen, Region 1
John Easterbrooks, Region 3
Joe Hymer, Region 5

The purpose of this meeting was to continue to set out the goals of the board and ensure that as we begin to look at various selective fisheries, we will have a common criteria on which to judge the projects.

John Long informed the group about the website being developed by WDFW. He provided an example of a FAQ sheet that he put together. A DRAFT of a map that will set out the areas where the Salmon and Steelhead endorsement will be required was provided for review by the board members.

You can access this information on the WDFW website at Licensing, then go to Columbia River Salmon Steelhead Endorsement. Click here.

The board adopted a set of by-laws patterned after those used by the Steelhead and Cutthroat Advisory Board. It was decided that the chair for the board would be shared by two co-chairs for alternating two year terms. Denny Way and Bob Whitehall will share co-chair duties. Jerry Rhoads was appointed as parliamentarian and will serve indefinitely at the pleasure of the board.

Joe Hymer presented some preliminary suggestions for possible selective fisheries that Region 5 staff were considering for the LCR. It included selective fishing opportunities for spring Chinook in various areas of Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day pools. Unfortunately because funds from this endorsement will not be available until after July 1st no action will be taken. This is unfortunate considering the potential size of this years up river spring Chinook run.

The next meeting is expected to be some time in May.

CCA Testifies at WDFW Commission Meeting

CCA Government Relations Committee Vice Chair Andy Marks presented testimony regarding the Puget Sound Chinook Harvest Management Plan to the WDFW Commission at it’s February 6th meeting.  Discussions to update the PSCHMP are underway, and involve WDFW, tribal co-managers, and the National Marine Fisheries Service.

Over the past several months, CCA has provided comments about the content of the plan, and about the process being used to update it.  It is anticipated that the final plan recommendations will be submitted to NMFS in March.

  Miscellaneous
  VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

State Board Nominating Committee Chair Gary Johnson has issued a plea for more volunteers.  A variety of helpers are needed on the various State
Committees.  The work that CCA is doing is primarily dependent upon volunteers who are dedicated to the purposes and objectives of CCA, and
who are willing to devote some time and energy.

No experience is needed; to volunteer in any way, a little or a lot, go to our website at
http://ccapnw.org/WA_Volunteer, fill in your name, etc, and click “submit.”   THANK YOU!
