I am deeply disappointed with your vote for passage of AB 458, the so-called "Healthy Youth Act."  I do not want to see local control of Human Growth & Development (HG&D) programs stripped away by this state mandate.  Organizations and individuals who advocate for so-called "safe-sex" and "reproductive choice" do not have the best interests of our children at heart and are ignoring the facts, science and medical and psychological research on this topic.

I believe that an abstinence-centered curriculum that teaches, among other things, the responsibilities of marriage and parenting, as well as the emotional, physical and psychological consequences of casual, non-marital sex is in the best interests of our children.

This bill, which basically mandates "more of the same," will not fix the tragic problem of underage sex, teen pregnancy and the rising rate of STD's among our children.  Rather, it will simply exacerbate the problem.  I am very sorry to see that you voted in favor of this mandate.
