A Good Sex Ed Law in Tennessee Makes Good Sense by David Fowler
Sometimes I read a newspaper editorial criticizing legislation and I have to wonder if the editor even read what is being criticized.  Such was the case with the Tennessean’s recent editorial on a bill dealing with sex education that our organization brought to our legislature for consideration.

About the only thing with which I could agree was the editor’s acknowledgement that the current law is “flawed.”  But I strongly disagree with their conclusion that the “flawed” law is “sufficient.”  And the editor’s assertion that in fixing our state’s sex education laws our legislators are wasting their time and our money is a flagrant disregard of the cost to taxpayers of teen sex.   Bill allowing Tennessee's teachers to teach scientific theories in an objective manner moves forward
The Teacher Protection Academic Freedom Act, a bill brought to the legislature by our legislative arm, Family Action of Tennessee, passed the Senate Education Committee and is headed to the Senate floor on Monday, March 19. The bill (Senate Bill 893) makes clear that schools should create an atmosphere conducive to questioning scientific theories taught as part of the curriculum and that no teacher can be disciplined for questioning such theories.   October Baby opens next Friday
October Baby tells the story of Hannah, a young woman who, after learning she was adopted following a failed abortion attempt, embarks on an incredible journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for her future.  David Fowler, FACT’s President, calls it “a great pro-life message ... that will touch your heart and mind at a deep level."  And a percentage of your admission charge goes to crisis pregnancy centers, life-affirming adoption agencies, and organizations that assist orphans.  Watch the compelling video of Gianna Jessen, the young lady who inspired the movie, in our Video of the Week section.
Enrollees in state health exchange insurance plans will help pay for abortions
The Obama administration’s final regulations on new state health exchanges provide that anyone enrolled in an insurance plan that covers abortion will be responsible for sharing its cost.  Plans call for part of each premium to be allocated for abortions and no exemptions will be made for people with moral objections.
Leading gay organization launches campaign to silence conservative Christians
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), often referred to favorably in the mainstream media, has launched an effort to silence 36 mostly Christian commentators who offer views on homosexuality other than total and complete approval.  GLAAD claims “these voices are comparing LGBT people to Nazi Germany” and they “do not accurately represent the ‘other side’” of issues like same-sex marriage.  Its hit list includes Jim Daly, the president of Focus on the Family, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, Albert Mohler, Chuck Colson, Gary Bauer, David Barton, and Don and Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association.
Another gay organization launches viral video campaign targeting school kids
The campaign offers a free, pro-gay T-shirt to any teen who pledges on YouTube to speak out against disapproval of homosexuality at school and support gay marriage.  It includes a slickly-produced musical commercial showcasing a same-sex teen kiss and kids dancing while singing a catchy pro-gay song. Organizers say the campaign is in response in part to current legislation in Tennessee and elsewhere.
Couple wins millions in "wrongful birth" suit against hospital
How do you tell your child, when she’s old enough to understand, that after she was born you sued the hospital for not providing you with information that would have caused you to kill her before she was born?  And these parents say they “love” their child?  By contrast, here’s a father of a Down Syndrome child who truly understands the gift of life.
ABC stoops to a new low with GCB
ABC’s new Sunday night program GCB (original title: “Good Christian B******”) received the Parents Television Council’s Worst TV Show of the Week because it injects “an insultingly caricatured and totally one-sided image of religion into the picture.” PTV notes that “all of the villainous, vengeance-crazed women are devout Christians” while the only non-believer (the show’s protagonist) “possesses the virtues of a saint.”
Federal government refuses to provide food to faith-based food pantry
Food distributed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture will no longer be provided to a faith-based food pantry due to the pantry’s volunteers asking clients if they would like to pray, even though the clients are served whether or not they agree to the volunteer’s prayer offer.
