  Vandy Wants Its Cake And Wants To Eat It, Too  
  Vanderbilt University, in saying that it has an “all comers” policy under which it can prohibit Christian student organizations if they require their members and leaders to adhere to their core beliefs, has asserted that a U.S. Supreme Court decision approved of such a policy. But the proposition that the Supreme Court’s decision actually supports might well come back to haunt the university.

  House approves amended bill allowing Tennessee's teachers to teach all aspects of scientific theories  
  Senate Bill 893, the Teacher Protection Academic Freedom bill that was brought to the legislature by our legislative arm, Family Action of Tennessee, is now before the Governor for his signature.  The bill allows teachers to help students develop critical thinking skills by considering the strengths and weaknesses of scientific theories being taught in their science curriculum.  Learn more about SB 893.
 
  Senate committee approves bill reforming state's broken sex ed laws  
  In another positive development for Tennessee’s families, the Senate Education Committee approved Senate Bill 3310 by a 9-0 vote!  The bill, also brought to the legislature by Family Action of Tennessee,would make it clear that our schools are to teach abstinence and not promote, encourage, or condone sexual activity among our young people. Its companion bill in the House, HB 3621, previously passed a subcommittee of the House Education Committee and will be up before the full House Education Committee on Tuesday.Learn more about SB 3310/HB 3621.  
  Bill upholding religious liberty protection for public college students approved by Senate committee  
  On Wednesday, the Senate Education Committee also approved Senate Bill 3597. The bill will provide religious liberty protection for public university students by ensuring that Tennessee’s publicly funded colleges and universities cannot discriminate against religious student groups the way Vanderbilt University has done.  Its companion House bill, HB 3576, is also up before the House Education Committee on Tuesday.   Catholic student organization to leave Vanderbilt  
  Vandy Catholic, a student organization of over 500 members, announced that it will be leaving the campus rather than comply with the university’s policy forbidding it from requiring its leaders to adhere to its core beliefs. Vanderbilt responded: “We do not believe our nondiscrimination policy to be incompatible with religious freedom.”

  Christian business in Kentucky under attack for not promoting homosexual agenda  
  Another Christian business is under fire because it refused a homosexual organization’s demand that it provide T-shirts promoting homosexuality for Lexington’s “gay pride” festival. When will Tennessee’s private businesses start coming under similar attacks?  
  October Baby still at your local movie theater this weekend  
  October Baby, which earned the second highest per-screen revenue last weekend, tells the story of Hannah, a young woman who, after learning she was adopted following a failed abortion attempt, embarks on an incredible journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for her future.  Parents TV Council calls it “a deeply human story about pain, loss, and the power of forgiveness -- and ultimately, hope.”
