Bill reforming state's broken sex ed laws passes the House
| |
Today, the House of Representatives passed a bill brought to the legislature by our legislative arm, Family Action of Tennessee, to repair Tennessee’s badly broken laws for teaching sex education. The bill replaces current law governing sex ed programs in schools to make clear that such programs are to be abstinence-centered and must not promote, encourage, or condone sexual activity as some programs being taught by Planned Parenthood and others have been doing. The bill must now go back to the Senate for approval of a technical amendment. Learn more about SB 3310.

Resolutions to amend state constitution on judicial selection pass legislature
| |
Different resolutions to amend the state constitution to reform the judicial selection process for state appellate judges were passed by the state legislature this week. These resolutions include SJR 710 that would adopt a “modified federal plan” where voters through their elected representatives would be given some control over who becomes a judge. Since these judges decide your constitutional rights based on how they “interpret” the state constitution, knowing what type of amendment may be put on the ballot for you to vote on is important. WKU professor says desecration of crosses is a "tool of debate and engagement"
| |
While campus police watch, an art student at Western Kentucky U. in Bowling Green places condoms over 3,700 crosses that had been set up as part of a university-approved display by a student pro-life group. Although the university’s president issued a statement saying that the “offending student” had apologized, the student herself says that she has done no such thing and her art professor tells the media that the professor had approved this form of vandalism as a “tool of debate and engagement.” |
