  This Week's Viewpoint
  Speaking Truth with Love
Eric Metaxas, the author of two highly-regarded biographies on Dietrich Bonhoeffer and William Wilberforce, explains why we might think twice about picking up a stone when we talk about human sexuality with our neighbors and in the public square. Read more or listen to his commentary here.

Bill reforming state's broken sex ed laws passes the House
Today, the House of Representatives passed a bill brought to the legislature by our legislative arm, Family Action of Tennessee, to repair Tennessee’s badly broken laws for teaching sex education. The bill replaces current law governing sex ed programs in schools to make clear that such programs are to be abstinence-centered and must not promote, encourage, or condone sexual activity as some programs being taught by Planned Parenthood and others have been doing. The bill must now go back to the Senate for approval of a technical amendment. Learn more about SB 3310.

Resolutions to amend state constitution on judicial selection pass legislature
Different resolutions to amend the state constitution to reform the judicial selection process for state appellate judges were passed by the state legislature this week. These resolutions include SJR 710 that would adopt a “modified federal plan” where voters through their elected representatives would be given some control over who becomes a judge. Since these judges decide your constitutional rights based on how they “interpret” the state constitution, knowing what type of amendment may be put on the ballot for you to vote on is important. Learn more here.
National Day of Prayer this Thursday, May 3rd
The 61st annual observance of the National Day of Prayer is this coming Thursday and this year’s theme is “One Nation Under God.”  The NDP’s purpose is “to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.” You can find an event close to you here.
ABC News asks: "The End of Marriage"?
New figures released from the 2010 census reveal that the proportion of homes containing a married husband and wife has dropped to 48%, down from 52% ten years ago and a peak of 78% in 1950.  At the same time, the proportion of unmarried couples living together jumped 40% from 2000.  While same-sex partner households increased, they still make up less than 1% of total households, contrary to the impression one might receive from TV and most of the mainstream media.
EEOC: Title VII's prohibition against employment discrimination includes gender identity
An EEOC ruling that gender identity is covered by Title VII’s prohibition against discrimination based on sex is being hailed as a ''sea change'' by transgender activist organizations. But an attorney for Liberty Counsel Action notes that the 1964 Civil Rights Act was never intended to cover gender identity and the ruling “basically says that a Bible bookstore owner, for instance, could not turn away a homosexual, cross-dressing man, a man who likes to wear a miniskirt and lipstick....”
National leader of anti-'gay bullying' project attacks Bible and Christian students
Dan Savage, a well-known leader of an Internet-based, anti-‘gay bullying’ project known as “It Gets Better” that is supported by national gay advocate organizations, celebrities, and President Obama, launches a tirade against the Bible and bullies Christian high school students by calling them “pansies.” To learn more about Mr. Savage, who is considered one of the “go to” experts on gay students by some cable news channels, click here.   WKU professor says desecration of crosses is a "tool of debate and engagement"
While campus police watch, an art student at Western Kentucky U. in Bowling Green places condoms over 3,700 crosses that had been set up as part of a university-approved display by a student pro-life group. Although the university’s president issued a statement saying that the “offending student” had apologized, the student herself says that she has done no such thing and her art professor tells the media that the professor had approved this form of vandalism as a “tool of debate and engagement.”
Proposed ordinance in Kansas a peek into the future?
A proposed city ordinance would force any church that permits its facilities to be used by outside organizations to host gay weddings. It would also require private businesses to allow transgendered persons to use whatever bathrooms they prefer, even if patrons complain about the safety of having a man in the women's restroom or visa-versa.
  A Life Well Lived
We cannot conclude this week’s Five Minutes for Families without noting that earlier in the week Chuck Colson went home to the Lord. As his colleagues, Robert P. George and Timothy George, aptly noted, “His life stands as a testimony to God’s power to transform culture and make a difference.” One way we can honor this amazing Christian leader’s life is by reading and signing the Manhattan Declaration.
