Urge major companies that have previously defended ENERGY STAR to fight for it again

In 2017, the first Trump Administration tried to get rid of ENERGY STAR, which was met with severe backlash from the program's partners. That's because companies that participate have historically seen tangible benefits—namely, additional sales that can be attributed to the fact that 90% of American households recognize the ENERGY STAR label and nearly 45% intentionally seek out ENERGY STAR products when shopping.

(This petition will be sent to LG, Panasonic, and Samsung.)

When the ENERGY STAR program was initially on the chopping block in 2017, you fought for its preservation. Now that it’s under threat again, we are urging you to take another stand.

More than $100 billion worth of ENERGY STAR products are sold each year—energy-efficient products that help consumers and businesses improve energy efficiency and save $40 billion in annual energy costs. Companies like yours don’t just contribute to these impressive savings through the products you sell, but help shape a competitive business environment that drives further energy efficiency improvements.

Participating in the labeling program also brings tangible benefits to you. 90% of American households recognize the ENERGY STAR label, and nearly 45% intentionally seek out ENERGY STAR products when shopping. By having this iconic label associated with your products, consumers hoping to save on energy costs are encouraged to purchase your items.

Unfortunately, without clear labeling, shoppers will become more likely to opt for cheaper, less-efficient products that increase their energy usage and costs. Eliminating ENERGY STAR would also get rid of rebates for energy-efficient appliances, further disincentivizing households from choosing energy-efficient appliances.

Please do everything you can to fight for the continuation of this important program!
