    Bill Summary

ON FEBRUARY 23, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 79, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to revise present law provisions concerning hazardous materials endorsements applicable to temporary permits and licenses. Under present law, the department of safety is prohibited from issuing or renewing a hazardous materials endorsement until a determination of no security threat has been issued in accordance with federal law. The department is required to revoke a current hazardous materials endorsement upon receipt of an initial or final determination of a security threat. This amendment adds that a commercial driver license issued with such an endorsement expires on the date the endorsement authorization expires.
