The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) is urging Congress to restore staffing to the critical programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that support millions of Americans with asthma and allergies. Recent layoffs at CDC have eliminated or significantly reduced staffing at the National Asthma Control Program (NACP), the Climate and Health Program, the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). These programs help reduce asthma-related deaths, improve air quality, address the health impacts of climate change, and prevent tobacco use—all of which are essential for respiratory health. Congress must act now to protect public health and ensure that these vital programs continue to support communities across the U.S. Take action today by telling Congress to restore staffing for these essential programs to prevent worsening asthma and allergy outcomes and to safeguard the health of millions.
