Tell FAA to require easy-to-use epinephrine
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a new rule updating what's required in airline emergency medical kits, and it's your chance to weigh in before it's finalized.

Since 2018, AAFA has pushed for airlines to carry modern, easy-to-use epinephrine delivery systems in their emergency medical kits. While the proposal does require airlines to be prepared to address anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), the language is vague enough that airlines could still get by with a basic epinephrine vial and syringe. These are hard to dose and require a medical professional to administer.

As AAFA President and CEO Kenny Mendez said: "The best way to treat anaphylaxis is to use a modern epinephrine delivery system, and we should accept nothing less. It will save lives, it's cost-effective, and it's easy to deliver even for someone who has no medical training."

The FAA claims that the flexibility it is giving to airlines will allow them to modernize their kits as medical treatments evolve, but as proposed, the rule does nothing to guarantee that they will.

When it comes to anaphylaxis, there should be no room for flexibility.

The FAA is accepting public comments on this proposal until October 5, 2026. Join us in telling the FAA that every commercial flight should carry modern, easy-to-use epinephrine.
