Support NPs in Providing Greater Care in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF)
Current federal policy limits NP's ability to provide care for patients, because while NPs can perform the admitting exam for SNF patients, only a physician can certify that exam, which can result in duplicative visits. NPs are also required to alternate the other required examinations with physicians, even when they are available to provide the care and they are the clinician most familiar to the patient. This bill would align SNF regulations with state law while removing outdated barriers that limit my ability to provide care to my patients, result in duplicative services or delay care for patients.

This bill would authorize nurse practitioners to perform the admitting exam and all other required exams for Medicare and Medicaid patients in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) consistent with state law.
