The continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is a global crisis, devastating countries around the world, and is also hitting very close to home.
Many nonprofits and associations that represent the healthcare industry throughout the US have been hit especially hard. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the cancellation of major meetings and events in the US and forced other event sponsors to consider canceling or postponing other events that are dependent on in-person attendance at convention centers, hotels, and other event facilities.
While the original CARES Act that passed Congress included some relief for certain organizations through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), it did not include eligibility for a number of local chambers of commerce, associations, and nonprofits classified as 501(c)(6) organizations.
AAOE is pleased that the proposed HEROES Act from House Democrats would rectify this issue and would expand eligibility for the PPP to all nonprofits of all sizes. AAOE supports bipartisan and bicameral cooperation on this issue and strongly urges Congress to keep this provision in the next supplemental package that Congress takes up to address the health and economic response to the pandemic.
Act Now and urge Congress to include 501(c)(6) organizations in the Paycheck Protection Program!
