Legislation has been introduced in Maine to modernize PA practice and remove barriers to care. If passed,
LD 2088 would eliminate the requirement that PAs serving as the principal clinical provider in a medical practice must have a practice agreement with a physician.
This change will expand access to care, especially in rural and underserved communities, create parity between PAs and NPs, and help Maine qualify for additional federal funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program.
More than 1,000 PAs in Maine are limited by unnecessary administrative barriers. LD 2088 would allow PAs to practice at the top of their license, reduce wait times, and strengthen the healthcare workforce statewide.
Grassroots advocacy works, and your voice matters. To advance LD 2088, legislators need to hear directly from PAs and patients.
How you can help:
- Send a letter to your Maine State Senator and Representative using our template urging support for LD 2088.
- Personalize your message!
- PAs: Share your training, your role in patient care, and how this bill would help you better serve your community.
- Patients: Describe challenges accessing care. Tell your legislator why you enjoy seeing your PA and why you trust your PA to manage your health.
- Encourage others to take action and support better access to care.
Thank you for your advocacy efforts!
