Support PA Title Change in Louisiana!

Legislation (HB 1143) has been introduced in Louisiana to change the title of the PA profession from “physician assistant” to “physician associate.” This simple but important change better reflects the care we provide every day and ensures Louisiana PAs have a title that accurately represents the high-quality, advanced medical care we deliver.

The current title often leads to confusion, with many patients assuming PAs only “assist” physicians. In reality, PAs are highly trained clinicians who play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Updating our title will improve patient understanding, strengthen trust, and more accurately represent our contributions to Louisiana’s healthcare system.

How you can help:

  • Use our template to email your state legislators in support of HB 1143.
  • Personalize your message! Share your own experience as a PA or a story that highlights confusion about the current title. Personalized messages make a stronger, more lasting impact.

Together, we can ensure Louisiana patients and policymakers clearly understand the essential role PAs play in healthcare.
