Support for NIST: Essential for Advancing Safe, Accurate, and Quantifiable Patient Care
NIST needs your support now:

You can make a difference!

Tell Congress about the essential work conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Why are we concerned?

The FY26 proposed budget signals a 28% reduction in funding for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST provides many key and irreplaceable services to the medical physics profession. Most notably, by establishing radiation standards and traceability for dosimetry calibrations laboratories (i.e., AAPM's ADCL Program). Additionally, NIST is working on critical issues of metrology in the areas of radioisotopes and even quantitative MRI. NIST’s radiological and magnetic resonance research programs are not peripheral—they are foundational to patient care, regulatory compliance, scientific innovation, and national public health preparedness.
