AASCU on the Hill

The inaugural AASCU on the Hill event April 19–20, in Washington, D.C., promises to be an impactful event that will pave a path of success for our institutions and communities. Our Council of State Representatives recommended this initiative as a way to underscore the importance of our AASCU institutions across the country. As stewards of place, we must continue to play a vital role in the formation of and in the advocacy of policies that impact the ability of the most underrepresented to attain an affordable, quality postsecondary education.

For the first time, AASCU presidents/chancellors, government relations staff, and student representatives will have the opportunity to come together to collectively:

  • Meet with your U.S. representative and senators.
  • Help inform your elected officials of your campus' challenges and successes.
  • Advocate before federal decision-makers for support of issues directly affecting postsecondary access and affordability like doubling the maximum Pell Grant award, increased resources for student retention and completion, and teacher preparation programs.

Registration is now open for this important opportunity to share your policy stories and priorities directly with Congress. Your personal voice will amplify our campuses’ stories for members of Congress and their staff.

In the lead up to the event, AASCU’s government relations team will be offering talking points and webinars on policy issues that impact regional comprehensive universities. I look forward to working with you this April to turn our shared mission into a nationwide reality. Additional event information regarding the agenda, special networking and learning opportunities for spouses/partners, and accommodations can be found on the AASCU website.
