Encourage Support for Increasing the Midwifery Workforce
Dear ACNM Member and/or Midwifery Advocate,

ACNM Government Affairs also encourages midwifery supporters to reach out to their House Representative about co-sponsoring the recently introduced Midwives for Maximizing Optimal Maternity Service Act, H.R. 3849. This legislation seeks to improve maternal health outcomes; ensure access to high-quality maternal health services for women, newborns, individuals, and families; and help end crisis level U.S. maternal mortality rates by expanding educational opportunities for Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Certified Midwives (CMs), and Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs). This unprecedented, monumental legislation represents the first-time federal policymakers have prioritized investment in accredited midwifery education programs. As such, we have a lot of work to do to ensure this legislation becomes law during the 116th Session of Congress.
ACNM has made it easy! You can reach out directly via phone to your House Member by clicking here. You can review our H.R. 3849 issue brief and fact sheet to gather talking points for your “live” conversation. We have also provided an electronic template letter below that will be sent directly to your Representative’s office. Let’s all do our part! Take action today to help grow capacity within our nation’s midwifery workforce.
Please contact Amy Kohl, ACNM's Director of Government Affairs at akohl@acnm.org, with any questions about H.R. 3849.
