Urge Your Members of Congress to Oppose Ban on Diversity Efforts in Medical Schools
ACP is calling on all internal medicine physicians to contact their members of Congress and urge them to oppose the ‘EDUCATE’ Act, H.R. 7725. The bill, if passed, could end federal funding for US medical schools with programs related to diversity, equity, and/or inclusion.

Background:

On March 19, Representative Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC-3) introduced the Embracing anti-Discrimination, Unbiased Curricula, and Advancing Truth in Education (EDUCATE) Act, H.R. 7725 to end federal funding for US medical schools with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.  On April 11, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

According to the EDUCATE Act, medical schools must not establish, maintain, or contract with a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office, or any other functional equivalent.

If H.R. 7725 passes, noncompliant medical schools would no longer receive federal funding or be eligible to participate in guaranteed student loan programs.  Accreditation agencies would also be required to check that medical schools do not promote diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

The bill currently has at least 43 co-sponsors.

Action Requested: Please email or call your members of Congress to urge them to oppose the Embracing anti-Discrimination, Unbiased Curricula, and Advancing Truth in Education (EDUCATE) Act, H.R. 7725. A sample email and phone script to members of Congress is provided for you that includes space to personalize your message.
