The House passed the Equality Act (vote 224 – 206) on February 25, 2021, and it now goes to the U.S. Senate for consideration. We must ask you once again to take action. This is critically important. Back in 2019 when the House first passed it, the Senate refused to take it up. But now there is a new Senate majority which will indeed take up the bill at any time. We must make our voice heard in the Senate – and with President Biden for whom this is a priority.
As you know, the Equality Act has strong negative consequences for Christian schools. It is a repeat of the 2019 effort to make sexual orientation and gender identity a protected class, just like biological sex, under existing federal nondiscrimination laws. It could threaten the freedom of both individuals and religious organizations to exercise their religious convictions, endanger the safety and privacy of individuals, jeopardize the opportunity for women to access athletic and scholarship opportunities they enjoy now, and violate the rights of conscience for health care providers. It is important for the Christian school community, including staff and parents, to express our views to Congress and the President.
Please take quick action to contact your two Senators – personally if you know either one – and urge them both to vote against the Equality Act.
If you need more information, please see our ACSI Equality Act Resource page. We continue to post updates on this issue to this page.
Thank you for taking action today.
