Lab services are essential to preventing and diagnosing diseases and conditions, empowering patients and their clinicians to make informed decisions about care. Additionally, they play a critical role in health care, as roughly 70 percent of healthcare decisions depend on laboratory test results. However, Medicare payment cuts are putting patient access to clinical laboratory services at risk.

CMS' newly released preliminary rates for 2027 would cut payment on nearly 1,200 tests — with 775 facing the maximum 15% cut — based on commercial data from just 2% of all Medicare-billing laboratories; with further reductions planned for 2028 and 2029.

Over 130 bipartisan legislators in Congress, as well as more than 60 leading provider and patient groups, agree that it is time to reform the Medicare clinical laboratory payment system. 

Tell Congress to pass the Reforming and Enhancing Sustainable Updates to Laboratory Testing Services (RESULTS) Act this year.
