Senate Bill 154 would remove Social Security Cards and EBT cards (food stamp cards) from the list of ID cards accepted for voting on provisional ballots in Kentucky with voter affirmation affidavit of eligibility.
This bill is fundamentally about removing an election security vulnerability, like we already did with regards to credit cards and debit cards. Social Security cards and EBT cards do not have a photograph on them and are targets for theft.
This legislation would leave in place the religious exemption to being photographed. In that case, that person would use "any identification card issued by a county in this state which has the name of the voter stated and has been approved in writing by the State Board of Elections."
So, the State Board of Elections would know who everyone is ahead of time who had a religious exemption to being photographed but would still be allowed to vote.
The state senate has passed this bill. We now need the state house to pass it.
