New in the GR Toolbox: AKC GR Introduces Updated State Economic and Community Impact Figures
June 9, 2022 by AKC Government Relations

For more than 135 years, the American Kennel Club® (AKC) has been America’s leading authority on all things dog and the premier resource for dog lovers.

The AKC is a not-for-profit club of clubs and breed registry dedicated to promoting responsible dog ownership, preserving purebred dogs, advancing the health and well-being of all dogs, and advocating for science-based canine policy that is reasonable, enforceable, and non-discriminatory.

Together with more than 5,000 AKC dog clubs and AKC affiliated charitable organizations, we embrace giving back to our communities, canine health, responsible dog ownership, and safety. We share our passion for dogs – and we bring significant positive impact to every state.

Today, the AKC Government Relations Department is pleased to introduce newly revised and updated AKC economic and community impact figures for all 50 states. The AKC Impact By State packet provides valuable information to share with lawmakers, local media, chambers of commerce and other community entities about the positive impact that AKC clubs, affiliates and events have in each and every state.

Easy-to-share one-page summaries have been updated to include a broad range of new information including:

  • Economic impact of AKC dog shows
  • The number of AKC dog clubs and shows by state
  • AKC Reunite disaster relief trailer and K-9 Officer donations by state
  • AKC Canine Health Foundation (AKC CHF) Research grants and dollars by state

This newly revised and expanded resource utilizes survey data of expenditures in local communities by dog show exhibitors in 2021. The updated survey revealed that exhibitors spend approximately $863 in a local community during a dog show weekend.

Visit the AKC Government Relations toolbox to view the full packet economic impact by state report and overview or to print or share a one-page flyer about our impact in your state.
