Recently, AKC Government Relation Central States Analyst Jacob Hupp traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, to speak at the Great Dane Club of America national specialty on legislative hot issues and effective advocacy for local clubs.
Election resources were shared so that club members could identify, meet and support dog friendly candidates in their local communities and take important steps to ensure clubs are taking a stand for purebred dogs during the 2022 midterm elections and beyond. This included an AKC election guide and a candidate legislative survey.
The attendees of the presentation were particularly concerned with legislation known as “bond for care” that would deny dog owners due process and force them to pay costs of care for a seized animal even if they are never convicted of a crime.
Hupp shared numerous resources on this and other key issues that are available in the AKC Legislative Action Center.
We encourage you to visit our Legislative Action Center at www.akcgr.org to view our latest resources and information, including economic impact information for your state, talking points on key legislative issues, election resources and advocacy tools you can share with fellow exhibitors and club members.
If you would like a member of the AKC GR team to speak to your club or attend your show to share resources and discuss how we can work together to be effective advocates for dogs, contact us at doglaw@akc.org.
