ACT NOW: Tell your senator to protect the right to protest
Alabamians have the right to protest officials’ actions, even when that makes elected officials uncomfortable. But Sen. Arthur Orr’s SB 57 would drastically undercut the right to protest public officials.

This bill would prohibit any protest near the residence of a public official that is designed to “disturb that [official].”

All protests by nature disturb the people in power, and the right of Alabamians to make their voices heard is protected by both the First Amendment and the Alabama Constitution. This bill would undermine both of those.

The bill is currently awaiting a vote from the full Senate.

Your senator needs to hear from you that you oppose SB 57, and they should, too.

Alabama won’t be made better by criminalizing meaningful protest of the state’s problems. State officials should be listening to and fixing the issues people are protesting about instead of trying to jail people for demanding action to correct the shortcomings.

Please email your senator today and ask them to oppose SB 57.
