HB 102, sponsored by Rep. Susan DuBose, R-Hoover, would remove this guardrail for child workers. This bill has passed the House and got approval from a Senate committee. HB 102 could be up for a vote on the Senate floor as early as Tuesday, April 16. Your senator needs to hear from you that you oppose HB 102, and they should, too.
Teenagers aren’t the solution to Alabama’s workforce issues, and removing child labor protections won’t fix Alabama’s problems. Under this bill, school workers would lose the ability to protect middle school and high school students who are unprepared to fulfill both work and school roles. And unlike the Senate version of this bill, HB 102 wouldn’t even collect data about labor violations and injuries affecting underage workers. If passed, this bill could place thousands of teen workers at greater risk without even bothering to track how many teenagers could be affected.
Please email your senator today and ask them to oppose HB 102.
