Oppose HB 7, a harmful anti-immigrant bill
Alabama Arise’s board has voted to oppose HB 7 by Rep. Ernie Yarbrough, R-Trinity, an anti-immigrant bill moving at the Alabama Legislature. This is in line with our historic opposition to severe anti-immigrant bills and our commitment to building a more just and inclusive democracy.

Please ask your representative to vote NO on HB 7.

This harmful bill would discourage many domestic violence victims and other crime victims who live in immigrant communities from reporting crimes for fear of retaliation or investigation from law enforcement. The bill also would undermine civil liberties and increase the risk of racial profiling and wrongful detentions. And all of these measures would erode community trust in law enforcement, reducing crime reporting and undermining public safety for all Alabamians.

Arise is among numerous statewide groups opposing this harmful legislation. Other partners standing against HB 7 include the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, the Hispanic and Immigrant Center of Alabama, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ACLU of Alabama and the League of Women Voters of Alabama.

Share your concerns and ask your state representative to vote NO on HB 7.
