Act now: Support mental health wellness for new moms
Alabama can and should do more to strengthen mental health support for new mothers. Nearly 1 in 5 mothers in our state (19%) experience postpartum depressive (PPD) symptoms. And the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health gives Alabama a failing grade for mental health support.

SB 191 by Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile, would help new mothers receive essential mental health services and support after they give birth. The Senate could vote on this bill as soon as Tuesday, April 15. Your senator needs to hear that you support this important legislation.

Email your senator and urge them to vote YES on SB 191.

SB 191 would ensure that all mothers are screened for PPD symptoms and receive the treatment options they need. The bill also would ensure that all mothers and their support systems have relevant written information on PPD when they receive postnatal or pediatric care for their newborn.

As Alabama continues to make strides in improving maternal health outcomes, SB 191 would build on ongoing progress and support mothers in getting the mental health care they need when they need it most. Let’s keep working to ensure a healthy start for new mothers and growing families across our state. Act now to support mental health wellness for new moms in Alabama!

Contact your senator and tell them to vote YES on SB 191.
