Act now! Tell the USDA to fund SNAP benefits for November
People should not have to choose between food, rent and health care. But millions of struggling families are about to be forced to make exactly that choice as the holidays approach.

Take a moment now to help hundreds of thousands of Alabamians keep food on the table.

Because Congress has not passed a federal budget for 2025-26, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has decided that Alabama and other states cannot issue food assistance benefits for November under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Without a resolution to this issue, nearly 800,000 Alabamians who participate in SNAP may face a Thanksgiving with less food – or none at all – on the family table.

The good news is there is a solution to prevent the worst of the immediate harm from this decision. The USDA has a SNAP contingency fund of between $5 billion and $6 billion that can help cover most of the amount of November benefits nationwide. The agency also has the authority and ability to make internal transfers to cover the additional $2 billion to $3 billion needed to provide November SNAP benefits in full.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins so far has refused to release SNAP contingency funds to help cover November benefits. We need your help to convince the USDA to reverse that decision and prevent suffering for millions of people.

Please take a minute today to email Secretary Rollins’ office to demand that she release the money needed to fund November SNAP benefits in full for all eligible participants. Time is of the essence, so please reach out today.
