SB 57 has passed the Senate, and the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee is set to vote on the bill on Wednesday, March 18.
Please take a moment to urge your state representative to vote NO on SB 57.
SB 57 would prohibit people receiving food assistance from using their assistance to buy candy and soda even when those purchases are allowed under current federal law. This bill is a solution in search of a problem. Research has shown that SNAP participants buy no more so-called junk food than do other consumers.
You can help stop this legislative overreach by urging your state representative to oppose SB 57. This bill is a purported solution to a problem that doesn’t exist, and it would only cause unnecessary confusion for Alabama grocery stores and their customers.
Email your state representative and ask them to vote NO on SB 57.
