Now we need to make no-cost school breakfast permanent for Alabama students. The House Ways and Means Education Budget Committee has an opportunity to ensure that our state funds no-cost school breakfast in the 2026-27 school year. Any House member can request that the committee chair include this funding in the education budget.
Your state representative needs to know you support this effort to reduce child hunger. Please ask your House member to support ETF funding for no-cost school breakfast.
Making no-cost school breakfast permanent would allow Alabama schools to build on the momentum of last year’s investment. For a total of $14 million, Alabama could provide breakfasts for every child in participating public schools at no cost to the students. No-cost school breakfast allows students to focus better in the classroom. And removing unnecessary paperwork allows school employees to focus more on what matters most: ensuring our students excel.
Starting the school day with a good breakfast helps children get ready to learn. Email your House member today and urge them to support no-cost school breakfast in Alabama.
