Sample Subject Line: Thank You and Follow Up from 7/25 Meeting

Dear [Name of Staffer/Representative/Senator]:

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me [and additional participants] on July 25th regarding the impact of climate change on mental health and health equity. We are heartened by the interest Congress is showing in mental health issues right now and hope your office will lend support to the proposal we discussed during our meeting, outlined below.

As discussed during our meeting, climate change, in addition to the impacts of increased natural disasters and warmer temperatures, can have negative impacts on social relationships, mental health, and brain development. Certain communities, such as children, older adults, low income communities, and communities of color, are more vulnerable to these impacts. We hope [name of Representative/Senator] will consider cosponsoring the Climate Change Health Protection and Promotion Act (H.R. 3271/S. 1702).

This legislation addresses the need for effective preparation to protect public health, including mental health, amid the climate crisis by: developing national and local action plans to prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change on public health; tracking data to better understand the relationship between climate change and health; prioritizing communities that are more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change; and more.

[Please add in any additional information regarding local needs that you may have mentioned in your meeting.]

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions or require more information. We look forward to continuing to work with you to improve climate action and address the mental health impacts of climate change.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to meet with your office.

Sincerely,
