As we continue to navigate evolving healthcare challenges, the role of pharmacists as trusted, accessible healthcare providers becomes more crucial. The Main Street Pharmacy Access Act (HR 3164)/Equtiable Community Access to Pharmacists Services Act (S. 2426) would recognize pharmacists as healthcare providers under the Social Security Act, expand patient access to essential services, and save Medicare dollars through cost-effective care. 

This legislation adds pharmacists to the list of recognized providers under the Social Security Act, thus allowing them to bill Medicare Part B for services that combat infectious diseases impacting public health, including: 

• Testing for influenza, COVID-19, strep throat, and RSV; and
• Treating influenza, COVID-19, and strep throat.

The bill, introduced by Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), was previously presented in the 118th Congress as H.R. 1770/S. 2477. It has already gained support from numerous Members of Congress from both parties. This new legislation continues to build upon the successes of the 118th Congress as we work toward passage in the 119th Congress.
