Like you, we are concerned about the recent Supreme Court decision and the probable ramifications if, as expected, Roe v Wade is overturned. While there is a real threat to our members’ ability to provide the best care to their patients (more on that follows), there is no immediate threat of IVF becoming illegal. However, what the end of Roe will mean is that states will have the ability to enact laws which ban or restrict reproductive medical procedures, and we are already seeing states propose bills that treat an embryo or fetus as a legal entity with equal standing to a born child.
These "personhood" bills could have potentially serious implications on IVF and infertility care and we encourage you to reach out to your elected officials and urge them to protect the sanctity of the relationship between a patient and provider.
