Hochul’s document released to fill out the details of the State of the State says, “Governor Hochul will advance legislation to ensure New York can set its own immunization standards based on accepted medical science and public health needs. The proposal will authorize the Commissioner of Health, in consultation with recognized medical organizations, to establish immunization requirements that guide school eligibility, clinical practice, and insurance coverage. This will provide clarity for providers and insurers, protect access to vaccines, and strengthen public health statewide.”

Several bills have already been introduced in Albany, as well as many other deep blue states, and they all do the same thing: end the states’ reliance on the vaccine recommendations of the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and transfer that authority to state entities controlled by the Governor like the New York State Department of Health (NYDOH), as well as private trade associations like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist, and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). All of which have deep ties to vaccine manufacturers and memberships who derive significant income from the vaccine trade.
Kennedy recently announced sweeping changes to the childhood vaccine schedule. The federal recommendations for routine vaccine administration were ended for influenza, COVID, meningitis ACWY, meningitis B, hepatis A, hepatitis B and rotavirus. The recommendation for HPV shots was reduced from the current 2 or 3 injections, depending on brand, to 1 injection. Only hepatitis B and meningitis ACWY are required to attend school in New York State, and New York City requires annual flu shots to attend daycare or pre-school regulated by the City of New York.
These changes bring the US childhood schedule, which has the most required doses of vaccines of any country in the world, much closer to the standards used in other wealthy western democracies. The majority of western democracies, however, make all childhood vaccines voluntary, unlike New York and four other states.
Contrary to Hochul’s assertions, all these shots remain available for children whose parents want them to have them, which illustrates the huge difference between where Kennedy is taking vaccine policy and what Hochul and the vaccine industry want. Kennedy wants all vaccine decisions for children to be made by parents in consultation with their healthcare provider. Hochul’s wants to allow the vaccine industry to decide what children should get, and then use the coercive power of the state to force parents to comply.
Hochul’s record as both Lieutenant Governor under Andrew Cuomo, and as Governor, and on public health is dismal. During COVID alone, Hochul presided over the most destructive, expensive, and counterproductive response to COVID of any state,
- Sent people with active cases of COVID to nursing homes during COVID while hospitals sat nearly empty, resulting in at least 15,000 deaths,
- Kept schools closed for years, instead of weeks like most other states, causing serious and permanent damage to a generation of children,
- Requiring completely unnecessary COVID injections for college students,
- Enforcing completely unnecessary COVID passports to enter almost all public areas,
- Becoming 1 of only 5 states that do not have religious or conscience exemptions to vaccine mandates to attend school,
- Making medical exemptions from vaccine mandates to attend school almost impossible to get, resulting in New York having the lowest rate of medical exemptions among all 50 states.
- And on and on and on and on…
Hochul’s policies have been one disaster after another. The last thing New York’s children need is Gov. Hochul having more power over vaccine decisions.
