The most recent memo he issued seeks to rescind funds for complete streets projects, green infrastructure, bike lanes, active transportation projects that reduce emissions, and projects that purposefully improve conditions for communities that have been unfairly marginalized and neglected.
The projects slated to be cut provide huge public benefit: they fund sidewalks in small towns, they make sure children are able to get to school safely, they address the harm caused by unsafe roads and polluting highways that divide communities, and more.
Now, we need you to fight for the walking movement. Tell Secretary Duffy that USDOT needs to keep the investments that make it easier for members of your community to walk with confidence through their neighborhoods.
If Secretary Duffy doesn’t reverse course, billions of dollars for safe streets and connected communities already authorized by Congress could vanish overnight and progress will stall to get more Americans active and moving in their communities. It’s time to protect programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All, Reconnecting Communities, and others that fund improvements for active transportation in your community.
