The BUILD America 250 Act would invest less funding into building streets that are safe for walking and connecting communities to affordable transportation options like walking, biking, and transit. Programs intended to reconnect communities, build healthy streets, and invest in active transportation have been cut entirely, while transit funding drops by 20% and is not guaranteed. At the same time, highway spending goes up and there’s no guarantee that the Trump Administration will honor previously awarded grants.
What the bill proposes is more of the same: a transportation monoculture that’s becoming increasingly cost prohibitive for more and more Americans. By increasing funding for highways while cutting funding for walking, biking, and transit, the bill would be a significant step backward for cities, towns, and communities—limiting families' freedom to choose how they get around.
Tell your members of Congress to oppose this bill. Whether measured by affordability, accessibility, health, or pollution, this bill takes us backwards. We will be asking for your help to urge Congress to reject this bill, and come up with a better plan for the future.
