13 July 2020 | Senate Hearing: Highway Trust Fund Closer To Insolvency
July 13, 2020 by NAPA Government Affairs
On July 1, the Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing entitled “Better, Faster, Cheaper, Smarter, and Stronger: Infrastructure Development Opportunities to Drive Economic Recovery and Resiliency.”  Witnesses included representatives from the Bipartisan Policy Center, Williams Brothers Construction Company, and Center for American Progress.  Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) highlighted the provisions of S. 2302, America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act, which was unanimously approved by the Committee last August and stressed the need for a bipartisan bill.  “Three months from today, the [current] surface transportation authorization will expire. This cannot be allowed to happen – especially during this pandemic-caused economic downturn,” he explained.  “To make matters worse, the Highway Trust Fund is rapidly approaching insolvency,” Sen. Barrasso added. Information on the hearing is here.
