I’m asking IPEC to act on two urgent priorities for Indianapolis students and families:
1. Keep enrollment simple.
All families deserve a clear, fair way to explore schools and apply. IPS’ decision to leave Enroll Indy is a step backward. Families considering both IPS and charter schools will face two systems with separate lotteries, applications, and deadlines. That means more work for families and more chances to miss an opportunity.
Please fulfill IPEC’s responsibility under state law to establish and oversee a unified enrollment system, and ensure all public schools within IPS boundaries participate. Choosing a school should open doors, not create barriers.
2. Protect the stability of Innovation Network charter schools.
The 11,000 students attending these schools need dependable classrooms, transportation, and support. Abrupt changes to facilities and transportation threaten that stability and schools’ ability to serve families.
Please use IPEC’s authority and work with IPS and the state legislature to ensure every Innovation Network charter school has the funding and support needed to manage these changes without disrupting students’ education.
Families need one clear enrollment process and schools they can count on. Please take steps to deliver both.
