    Bill Summary

Present law establishes varying hours of sale of alcoholic beverages by different types of premises lawfully allowed to sell alcoholic beverages. The alcoholic beverage commission is authorized to extend the hours of sale in jurisdictions that have approved the sale of liquor by the drink by referendum.

Present law prohibits the sale of beer between the hours of 12:00 am and 6:00 am and on Sunday. However, a county, by resolution of the governing body, is authorized to extend hours of sale for beer, if doing so is otherwise permissible under state law.

This bill authorizes the governing body of a jurisdiction that allows the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, or that has one or more entities within its jurisdiction with a license to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, to, by a 2/3 vote of the governing body, adopt an ordinance or resolution permitting the sale of alcoholic beverages and beer on Sundays during the same hours in which alcoholic beverages may be sold on weekdays. The governing body may repeal such ordinance or resolution in the same manner in which it was adopted.
