Teen robbed gas station at gunpoint, left with hundreds in cash, cops say

A teenager has been identified as the person who allegedly robbed a North Jersey gas station at gunpoint and took of with hundreds of dollars.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with the juvenile delinquency offenses of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

Prosecutors said the teen is a Bergen County resident, but declined to say which town he resides in.

Authorities allege that the boy was wearing a mask when he approached an employee at a gas station on Hackensack Avenue in River Edge around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 7. The teen then displayed a gun that was tucked into his waistband, demanded cash and took off with several hundred dollars, prosecutors alleged.

Investigators have not said how he was identified as the suspected robber.

The teen is being held at Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center pending further action by the county Superior Court’s family law division.
