Car carrier catches fire on NJ Turnpike in Bergen County

A car carrier caught fire on Interstate 95 northbound in Carlstadt on Tuesday, prompting a response from multiple fire departments.

Firefighters from Carlstadt and East Rutherford arrived at the scene to find the carrier and several vehicles ablaze. Crews worked to contain the flames as traffic was impacted in the area.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, at 10:56 a.m., the fire on the New Jersey Turnpike north of Interchange 18W ( for I-80/US 46/George Washington Bridge), closed one right lane of traffic.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire.

The incident remains under investigation.
