Panel discussion
Nearly half of the western United States is owned by the federal government.
In recent years, several western states have considered resolutions demanding that the federal government transfer much of this land to state ownership.
Panel members to discuss:
KEN IVORY, UT - Past President of the American Land Council:
Ken Ivory was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in November of 2010. He and his wife, Becky are the parents of four children. Given the daunting challenges that face the states and the nation, Ken took time from his business, mediation, and estate planning law practice to “secure the blessings of liberty” to his posterity.
As the founding president of the American Lands Council, Ken dedicated his time to educating legislators and community leaders throughout the states about their jurisdictional rights and duties to manage, protect, and care for the lands within our borders. Under Ken’s leadership, ALC has become the national leader in the charge to secure better access, better health, and better productivity of our public lands. Ken is the author of Where's the Line? How States Protect the Constitution.
Dave Chadwick – Executive Director – Montana Wildlife Federation:
He comes to MWF from Colorado, where he worked for the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife. Prior to that time, he worked for the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in Washington, DC, where he led efforts to develop wildlife conservation plans and increase funding for fish and wildlife conservation. Chadwick has also worked on Capitol Hill, with a nonpartisan citizen engagement organization in Minnesota, and in a variety of field positions in conservation. In reflecting on his selection as executive director, Chadwick said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Montana Wildlife Federation’s efforts to protect Montana’s natural landscapes, abundant wildlife and the public’s right to enjoy them both.”
“As a grassroots coalition of hunters, anglers, and other conservationists, the Montana Wildlife Federation has long been a leading voice in Montana and around the West,” Chadwick said. “I am excited about helping the organization grow and keep pace with changing times.”
A native of South Dakota, he attended Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., and received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. He is an avid angler and bird hunter.
