The Left Cheers Citizen Use of an AR-15 – – Not in the USA, But In the Ukraine!

“You are a special breed of stupid.”

That sums up what the Left thinks of a private citizen being able to legally own an AR – 15.

But wait.  That was before Vladmir Putin decided an unprovoked invasion of neighboring Ukraine was in order.

It was at that point the Ukrainian Defense Minister announced that 18,000 assault rifles and ammunition had been handed out to members of the militia and private citizens.  Then Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the government would give anyone willing to fight the Russian military a weapon.  And that’s exactly what they’ve been doing – no questions asked.

The support for the arming of the Ukrainian people with all manner of firearms came from a bunch of disparate political factions in the US and across the globe.

Last month:  Guns bad.

This month:  Guns good.

Even in his State of the Union speech last night, President Joe Biden called attention to this new reality: “Everyone from students to retirees to teachers turned soldiers is defending their homeland.”  He never mentioned, however, with what and how they are defending their country.  Water balloons?

Maybe it’s because he’s made a pretty sharp point that “No one needs an AR – 15. Period.”

Biden and his ilk – some of whom who have gone so far as to call our mental status into question (see stories here and here) for wanting to possess an AR – 15, are making stuff up as they go.  They have made fun of law abiding gun owners, as the Occupy Democrats did in their 2016 tweet that we are a “special breed of stupid.” They are certainly not alone in their derision – the Left genuinely believes that semi-automatic rifles are good for one thing – and that’s for killing people and killing them fast (check out these articles here and here) There are hordes of these leftists, clutching at their pearls all the while ignoring the elephant in the room: good guys with guns aren’t the problem.  This is such an elementary fact that all the statistics (however manipulated they are) in the world can’t undo.

That said, it still is curious as to what prompted the Occupy Democrats to tweet “If you’re an American who stands with the brave citizens of Ukraine who have been issued 10,000 automatic rifles as they prepare to repel Putin’s bloodthirsty invaders — please RT and follow our account for the latest breaking Ukraine news!”  They did a quick follow-up celebrating that a pizza shop owner in Kyiv is giving out free pizzas to any Ukrainian who “shows that they have a gun to fight the Russian invaders.”  A sudden attack of common sense?  Whatever the reason, they are right on the money.

Such comments put the hardened gun control zealots in a bit of a pickle – do they jump on the Ukraine bandwagon or do they start squawking about gun violence statistics?  Reuters reported that Peter Ambler, executive director of Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said “The tyrannical actions of Vladimir Putin don’t erase the fact that 45,000 Americans died from gun violence in 2020, nor do they erase the urgent need for commonsense, popular gun violence prevention policies like background checks and funding for community violence intervention programs.”

Sure.  Those background checks and community violence intervention programs are just what the Ukrainians needed to fend off Putin.

Let’s be clear – Ukraine doesn’t have a 2nd Amendment.  Can they own guns?  Yes, but it is not a right as we have in the US.  According to a recent article in Breitbart News, “The weapons giveaway began with the passage of a law in the Ukrainian parliament on [last] Wednesday that established the basic right of a free private individual to own a gun which allows for the “acquisition, possession, alienation, carrying, transportation, repair, use of civilian firearms and ammunition.”

Also reported was that Ukrainians have been stocking up on guns for years.  “Gun shops have sold out of some weapons, such as AR-10 and AR-15 assault rifles, with business now exceptionally busy,” the report noted, adding that “most Ukrainians – boys and girls – learn how to shoot at school” and nearly half a million Ukrainians have combat experience.

We don’t know if the military dominance and sheer might of Russia will ultimately crush the Ukrainian freedom fighters.  To those who naively say that nothing of this sort could ever happen on our soil, we say “have you been living under a rock for the past two years?”  Have you not witnessed the extraordinary chilling of our freedom of speech?  That “group think” is now regarded as normal – rather than a form of oppression? Indeed, we may not know the outcome of Russia’s bully-invasion, but what we do know, is that an armed citizenry is absolutely imperative to preserving liberty and freedom.

The U.S. is probably closer than you think. If Russia or (?) were to invade the U.S, Maybe through the lack of a border between the U.S. and Mexico, the American public would be the only deterrent. Without guns, the Cartel and such would take control. Our Current Federal Government would want to give them lunch and a hotel room.
