LEGISLATIVE ALERT!

Dear Fellow Homeschoolers,

ALERT! An INFORMATIONAL HEARING HAS BEEN SCHEDULED regarding removing the religious exemption for vaccines, for
Monday, May 13, 2019, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building.

This is not a public hearing regarding an identified bill being raised by a specific committee, but it serves a similar purpose in allowing the public to weigh in on potential legislation. Sign-up for the hearing will begin at 8:00 am in the First Floor atrium of the Legislative Office Building.  This is the center area of the first floor. If you can testify, please bring 30 copies of the testimony to give to staff when signing up.  Testimony received after the start of the hearing may not be distributed until after the hearing.  The first hour will be reserved for invited speakers.  Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes of testimony.

Please consider testifying to preserve our religious freedom to make choices regarding vaccines. Removing this freedom sets a dangerous precedent regarding parental rights in other areas concerning our children's health and well being, such as general medical care and education. Even if you cannot testify, your presence sends a message to legislators who see their constituents at the hearing.
A map of the capitol area an parking, is available here.

If you cannot attend you can still submit testimony via email to:
phtestimony@cga.ct.gov AND kidtestimony@cga.ct.gov
The testimony need not be lengthy, see below for ideas - but put it in your own words - please do not cut and paste. In the subject line, you can write: Oppose Removal of Religious Exemption for Vaccines. There is still no bill number or title identified.
You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler as a part of your testimony.  Those who claim a religious exemption do so for a variety of reasons, including objection to the presence of aborted fetal cells, as well as animal DNA in the vaccines.  There is no current health crisis that warrants this unusual move. Even if an emergency existed, it would make more sense to deal with the crisis itself without removing the religious exemption. Removal of this exemption would make Connecticut one of only four states that fails to honor the religious liberty of its citizens regarding vaccines. It  could also set a dangerous precedent, and prompt the legislature to remove other options that parents use to make decisions for their children. This is an undue infringement on our religious liberty and a step towards further state control of the family.
There is no telling how this could impact our homeschooling freedoms in the future.

PLEASE choose to get involved. Once our freedoms are gone, they cannot be reclaimed.
