Theft is costing #retailers, and indirectly YOU, over $9bn a year. New #technology will target serial #shoplifters, as research shows 85% increase in supermarket meat theft. There were more than 67,000 incidents of stolen meat recorded nationally, with beef the most popular target, followed by chicken, lamb and pork. #retail #crime https://lnkd.in/g4cr9BTT

I want to extend my gratitude to Nicole from the Glasgow Times for the opportunity to discuss an urgent and escalating issue: retail crime in Scotland. Retail theft has become a major concern, with incidents rising steadily. Walk into nearly any store, and you’ll likely see firsthand the impact that theft has on our retail spaces, staff morale, and overall business sustainability. Unfortunately, not every store has the resources to invest in high-level theft prevention. This leaves many retailers vulnerable, with shoplifting incidents causing significant financial and emotional strain across the industry. For the sake of both staff safety and business stability, it’s crucial that we bring more attention to this issue and work together on solutions that support our stores and communities. #RetailCrime #Scotland #Retail https://lnkd.in/e3sEz_b3

Success Story: Patronscan Helps Slash Liquor Store Thefts! Hey everyone! I just had to share this amazing success story with you all. Remember when thefts at Winnipeg Liquor Marts were out of control? People were walking out with bottles like they owned the place, and it was putting employees and customers at serious risk. Well, those days are over, thanks to Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation inspired approach and by leveraging Patronscan's ID verification systems! Since we introduced controlled entrances where everyone has to show their ID before they can enter, the results have been incredible: 🔒 Thefts have dropped from a shocking 15,557 in 2019-2020 to just 1,212 in the last year. 🚫 Robberies have gone down from 226 to only 12! It's so rewarding to see how effective our system has been in creating a safer environment for everyone. Now, law-abiding customers can shop without worry, and employees feel more secure at work. A big shoutout to our awesome team and partners for making this happen. Your hard work is paying off in such a big way! Kyle Ross from the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union put it perfectly: “Thefts are no longer the norm and we’re very happy they are much more infrequent than they were. At least now our workers are not being injured or threatened on the job.” Here’s to keeping things safe and secure! 🥂 #Patronscan #SafetyFirst #Security #RetailSuccess #TeamWork #CommunitySafety #IVAC #Accesscontrol

Retail’s Day of Action unites the industry in our fight against rising retail crime. Organized retail crime continues to affect retailers, workers, and the communities they serve. In response to this crucial issue, NRF has designated October 24, 2024, as Fight Retail Crime Day—an annual event that mobilizes the entire retail business community to advocate for effective solutions to combat this problem. On Fight Retail Crime Day, we will: Advocate for policies that promote community safety and address the rising threat of retail crime, such as the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act. Engage policymakers through NRF Store Tours (https://lnkd.in/gmr3tH7z) to provide firsthand insights into the effects of organized retail crime, theft, and violence on our communities. Time of Crisis - Stop Crime Against Retailers I had the opportunity of attending the ‘ Stop Crime Against Retailers’ campaign today, organised by ShelfLife and CSNA (Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association) in Fallon & Byrne Dublin. As someone who works closely with the grocery and convenience retail sector in my role as a managing consultant, I see the effects of crime on businesses and their staff every day. It’s shocking to hear that 100% of retailers have faced some form of criminal activity in the past year - ranging from shoplifting to violent robbery and gang intimidation. Todays campaign launch was a powerful wake-up call, urging immediate government and Garda action to protect retailers who are constantly on the front line. What really hit home for me was the survey findings, revealing not just the prevalence of these crimes, but how much more dangerous they are becoming. This isn’t just about financial loss - it’s about the safety and well-being of business owners, their employees, and their customers. I talk to clients daily who have had first-hand experience with these incidents in their stores, and it’s clear more needs to be done to support this sector. The five key demands for stronger protections and faster Garda responses discussed today are a crucial step in the right direction. A big well done to the ShelfLife and CSNA teams for bringing us all together to tackle these urgent issues. It’s time we unite as a community to demand more action and better support for the retail sector. You can learn more about this initiative via the ShelfLife website https://lnkd.in/dRvYgdKw Excel Recruitment #StopCrimeAgainstRetailers #RetailSafety #SupportRetailers #RetailCrime #ProtectRetail #GardaResponse #TimeForChange

As we continue to observe Respect for Shopworkers Week, it's essential to reflect on the challenges our retail colleagues face daily. Retail crime remains a significant concern across the UK, impacting independent stores particularly hard. Recent industry data from the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) reveals that over 850 incidents of violence and verbal abuse occur every day in local shops. Theft, intimidation, and aggression take a toll not only on individuals but on the communities they serve. A survey by trade union Usdaw Union found: · 69% retailers have experienced verbal abuse. · 45% retailers were threatened by a customer. · 17% retailers were assaulted. · 70% of these incidents were triggered by shoplifting and two-thirds of those were linked to addiction. At Nisa, we stand firm in supporting our colleagues, especially during this critical week. We commend the Government’s recent pledge to take action against retail crime. However, we must ensure that independent stores – often the heart of local communities – are not overlooked in these efforts. By working closely with our valued partners at Usdaw and ACS, we’re committed to amplifying the voices of independent retailers, pushing for safer environments, and advocating for stronger support for those who keep our shelves stocked and our communities connected. Let's all stand together to protect and respect the people who serve us every day. #RespectForShopworkers #Nisa #RetailCrime #IndependentRetailers #ACS #Usdaw
