  • Thank you to everyone who joined us at the ANCA’s Red, White & Armenian Fourth of July celebration at the Aramian House! It was a wonderful gathering of Armenian American professionals and community members from across the DC-MD-VA area, joined by our inspiring ANCA Leo Sarkisian and Maral Melkonian Avetisyan interns, who are spending their summer advancing the Armenian Cause through advocacy and public service. From the delicious khorovats - prepared by our very own Chef Alex - to the great conversations between friends old and new, this annual event brought together incredible energy and connection. Once again, we were joined by Armenian Assembly Terjenian-Thomas internship participants, strengthening the bonds of Armenian American youth advocacy. The evening ended with the ANCA interns enjoying a stunning view of the Fourth of July fireworks over the National Mall—a perfect close to a memorable day in the heart of our nation’s capital. • Heartfelt thanks to Ruth Semonian Vetter for inspiring ANCA Leo Sarkisian and Maral Melkonian Avetisyan interns with her remarkable journey from military service to senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Defense. Now Deputy General Counsel for Personnel and Health Policy, Ms. Vetter reflected on lessons learned across her career, emphasizing curiosity, continuous growth, and giving back. She shared how her Armenian identity shaped her global perspective and spoke movingly about her grandmother’s survival of the Armenian Genocide. Her insights offered a powerful example of purpose-driven leadership in high-stakes arenas. Ms. Vetter's powerful message resonated deeply with interns, especially those, like Victoria Danielyan, aspiring to excel in the national security field. "As a rising senior hoping to enter the field of U.S. national security, hearing from Ms. Vetter left me more certain than ever about the path I want to take. So many people warn that working in government can dull your sense of purpose, but to me, she shined a bright light in a field that often feels uncertain or heavy. She stood for what was ethical and right, and shared how the memories from her career—both the good and the difficult—continue to drive her passion for meaningful, impactful work. As a woman in national security, she’s not only an inspiration but a powerful reminder that staying true to your identity and being open to unexpected opportunities can lead to growth, purpose, and a career beyond what you ever imagined," explained Danielyan.
