HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Lawmakers and activists gathered on Tuesday to advocate for access to abortion drugs in Connecticut.

The gathering comes as the Supreme Court is currently considering a case of whether or not to preserve access to the abortion medication mifepristone.

The Connecticut activists gathered at the Office of the Attorney General in Hartford. Many called the case political, unfounded and dangerous for women.

“What business is it of the plaintiffs, what a woman in Connecticut does with her own body, it is none of their damn business,” said Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D-Conn) of West Hartford. “Quite frankly, it comes down to this, you do you. If you don’t want to get an abortion, don’t get an abortion, but don’t push your beliefs on all of us, which is then putting our lives in danger.”

The Family Institute of Connecticut, an anti-abortion group released a statement calling the abortion drug dangerous.

“Not only do we know that abortion kills a nascent life, as of December 2022, 32 deaths have been reported as a direct result of mifepristone,” the group said in part of a statement.
