UPDATE: Snow squall threat, up to 55 mph wind gusts in forecast. Latest updates.
Nearly all of New Jersey will get some light snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning as an Arctic blast of cold air sends temperatures plunging along with dangerous wind gusts up to 55 mph.
Less than 1 inch of snow is expected for most areas, except in the higher elevation areas of western Passaic and Sussex Counties where slightly more could fall. The timing, however, could make for a slick morning commute on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Northeastern parts of the state and the Jersey Shore are not expected to see snow, the weather service said.
Wind gusts on Wednesday night will reach 25 to 30 mph, forecasters say. Thursday will be far more windy, though.

The weather service said it’s “growing increasingly confident” that there will be winds of 25 to 30 mph that gust as high as 45 to 50 mph. A wind advisory is likely to be issued.
Forecasters are also concerned about the possibility of snow squalls on Thursday, especially north of the Interstate 78 corridor.

The highest temperatures will be in the morning — the mid 30s to low 40s before falling through the afternoon.
Thursday night will be the coldest of the season so far — with wind chill values plunging into the teens.
The forecast calls for dry conditions Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the snow Wednesday night.

Friday and Saturday will also be dry, sunny and chilly with highs still in the upper 30s and 40s.
