Thank you to the Armenian American professionals and community allies who joined us this past Friday for the ANCA’s “Aramian Linkup” networking mixer at our Aramian House! We had an incredible evening - with great conversations and delicious food from Sasuns Cafe - connecting Armenian professionals and supporters from across the DMV. And a bonus! The evening was a fond farewell to our Kasparian Summer Academy Session 2 participants - 18 bright high schoolers from California to Ohio, Pennsylvania to Massachusetts - striving for excellence in their careers and pro-Armenian advocacy. This event is part of the ANCA’s Friday HyeLights series, held monthly to strengthen professional networks and support Armenian youth through programs like the ANCA’s Hovig Apo Saghdejian Capital Gateway Program (CGP), which helps Armenian American students and recent graduates launch careers in public service, politics, and media. SAVE THE DATE: In September, we'll be hosting two Friday Night HyeLights - September 19th at the Soorp Khatch Armenian Church Food Festival and on September 26th, place TBD. Join us in welcoming our Fall Hovig Apo Saghdejian Capital Gateway Program cohort and inspiring them at both occasions. #ANCAPN #FridayHyeLights #YouthEmpowerment #ArmenianNetworking #ANCASummer #DCArmenians

Following the release of the U.S. State Department’s 2024 Country Report on Human Rights Practices in Azerbaijan, the ANCA is again calling on the U.S. to take immediate action to address the widely documented human rights violations perpetrated by Azerbaijan through the immediate reversal of the Trump Administration’s waiver of Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act, the enforcement of Global Magnitsky Sanctions against Azerbaijan officials responsible for war crimes, and the unconditional release of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages. “The Trump Administration’s own human rights report leaves no doubt — Azerbaijan continues to hold and torture Armenian prisoners, destroy Armenian heritage, and systematically erase Artsakh’s Armenian presence,” stated ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “Waiving Section 907 rewards this record. We urge the Administration to reverse this waiver, block arms sales, and sanction the Azerbaijani architects of these atrocities under the Global Magnitsky Act.” Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/ey4JH2vA

New York Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY), while welcoming White House efforts to Azerbaijan-Armenia peace, cautions: "While we continue to evaluate the scope and impact of this accord, we must ensure that it respects the rights of both countries and peoples, that it leads to Baku's release of Armenian political prisoners, and that it truly paves the way to a just and durable peace."
